(Letter no. 1)

Dear Roopa Jha Ma’am,

I’m feeling so enthusiastic to pen down my thoughts for you, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness.

Since the sixth grade of my school, I have known you as my best teacher in the class. As a Geography teacher, you developed my interest in this subject, to learn about the climates and topography of our country and the world.

In a lucid style, you explained various aspects of all the topics covered under the subject. Geography remained my favorite subject till my college graduation, where the practical period was even more exciting.

I will be indebted to you for your lessons and your warm-heartedness. Because of you, in this stage of my life, I have become a travel blogger. I find it fascinating to write about lovely destinations, their cuisine, and their cultures.

With warmest regards to you and your family. Your humble student.

Shashi Thakur.

Dear Sheila Roy Ma’am,

Feeling extremely happy to be connected to you after more than three decades. Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness.

You introduced me to the world of Indian classical music when I was in middle school. An aunt in my neighborhood brought you to the recreational club in our residential colony, to provide music lessons to the children.

Right from day one, I was fascinated by the nuances of Hindustani classical music. It was as if God had sent you to teach music to us kids. We felt enchanted by the rhythms and notes, which we diligently jotted down in a notebook.

At my home, I adjusted my practice of music lessons with my studies, so that both do not interfere with each other. So, I had a fixed time devoted to both of them. I was thrilled to know that I had passed the annual music exams with distinction. Fortunately, this continued for three years.

With warmest regards to you and your family. Your humble student,

Shashi Thakur.

(Letter no. 3)

Dear Rashmi Tikkoo Ma’am,

I’m overjoyed to be in touch with you after a little over twenty-five years. Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness.

As a Professor of English language in my college, you made the entire class enraptured with your engaging lectures. I always looked forward to your class with great zeal. All of my college friends listened to you with pin-drop silence.

Being an alumnus of Miranda House, Delhi, your style of delivering lectures was a class apart. You developed my interest in English literature too, to some extent. Otherwise, I stayed away from Dickens, Shakespeare, and Wordsworth so far.

Oozing warmheartedness, you easily connected with us girls during interactive sessions, in our women’s college. We felt mesmerized by your beautiful personality, always in crisp cotton sarees, nicely framed specs, and short-trimmed hair.

With warmest regards to you and your family. Your humble student,

Shashi Thakur.

(Letter no. 4)

Dear V. Sathe Sir,

With fond memories of over two decades ago of your warm smile, I’m recalling you on Teachers’ Day. Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness.

With the hope of sorting out my anxiety problems, I had chosen to pursue post-graduation in Psychology. You were the head of the Department in those days. I met you during the very first period of the two years course.

I vividly remember you lecturing on the topic of personality. You described that the factors influencing personality are heredity, education, and self (which includes all the aspects of one’s behavior). You explained that the definition of Psychology is the study of human behavior. I was hooked.

I couldn’t fathom how 45 minutes of the lecture ended. Sure there were a few more equally brilliant Professors, but you were the favorite amongst the students. You were so charming and effortlessly clarified complex theories of Psychology.

With warmest regards to you and your family. Your humble student,

Shashi Thakur
