Day 1 Goddess Maa Shailputri
On the first day of Navratri, followers of Maa Durga worship Maa Shailputri, understood to be a means of Maa Parvati and a reincarnation of Maa Sati.
Goddess Parvati was born as Lord Himalaya’s daughter and was recognized as Maa Shailputri (Hemavati or Parvati), after Goddess Sati’s self-immolation. Maa Shailputri possesses two hands, she holds Trishul in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand and mounts a bull. Her color is white reflecting peace, purity, innocence, and serenity. Identical to her earlier birth as Goddess Sati, Goddess Shailputri get married to Lord Shiva.
One of the Navadurgas Maa Shailputri is the provider of wealth and happiness. Disciples applaud her as mother nature and pray for their religious awakening. Moreover, the Goddess regulates the Moon, the provider of all prosperity. It is presumed that any bad impact of the Moon can be conquered by worshiping her.
On the first day of the nine-day festival of Navratri, devotees of Goddess Durga pray to Maa Shailputri and aspire for benefits for the wellness of their families. They start the auspicious event with Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana. During the Ghatasthapana puja, a pot is nestled at a sacred spot at home, and a lamp (diya) is kept burning inside for nine days. It is one of the important rites during Navratri.
Besides, navadhanya seeds and mud are deposited in a pan to which water is added. A kalash restored with Gangaajal and some coins, supari, and akshat (raw rice and turmeric powder) is settled in the water. Five mango leaves are positioned around the kalash and wrapped with coconut. Devotees then place an oil lamp, incense sticks, flowers, sweets, and fruits near Maa Shailputri. Desi Ghee as a special bhog is also given to the Goddess.
The Ghatasthapana Muhurta according to Drik Panchang, recedes on Pratipada Tithi. The Ghatasthapana Muhurat will start at 06:11 am and finish at 07:51 am, and the Ghatasthapana Abhijit Muhurat is at 11:48 am and will stop at 12:36 pm. Further, the Pratipada Tithi commences at 03:23 am on September 26 and finishes off at 03:08 am on September 27, 2022.
