From the daily tasks and instructions given to the kids to the job of setting goals for them, everything involves cordial and loving relationships between the parents and their children. Following are some of the most common parenting models adopted by the parents:

  • Dominating Parenting – It’s the oldest and the most traditional form of parenting. As the term suggests, parents dominate the lives of their children, forcing their advice on every trivial matter even after the children become grown-ups. A child doesn’t dare to go against his/her parents’ wishes. Because the parents oversee every action of their ward, they are also now infamously called helicopter parents. The children are robbed of good self-esteem, as they remain lifelong dependent on their influential parents for all the decision-making.
  • Passive Parenting – In this form of parenting, the parents do just the opposite of being dominant. They rarely take charge of what’s happening to their children’s lives, either willingly or out of compulsion. They can be over-friendly with the kids or don’t have time due to their job obligations. So they let their children decide what’s good for them and also by giving them too much money to compensate for the lack of quality time. Undoubtedly, this spoils the children to no end.
  • Active Parenting – This is the best form of parenting, with open communication. The parents are adequately and positively involved in every aspect that concerns their children, whether eating habits, studies, or attitude toward others. They try to correct their kids’ unpleasant behavior in a manner that doesn’t offend them. For instance, not scolding in public, but asserting in private not to replicate the bad actions and be apologetic. The parents exhibit their children by being the best example themselves. As they say, children learn more from their parents by observing their activities, like being charitable or polite to their servants or subordinates. So parent-children maintain a lifelong happy and emotionally healthy relationship.

Apart from the above standard norms of parenting, there’s a new mantra doing the rounds. Especially for moms, it’s tough explaining why they chose to bottle-feed over breastfeed or to work outside leaving small kids at home in the care of caretakers or in-laws. But knowing what’s good for her and them, making adequate arrangements that’ll benefit her kids leave her hassle-free. And that’s guilt-free parenting. Hence, responsible and happy parenting is crucial to the all-around development of children.
